Has anyone used the polymer crystals in their soil when planting their pumpkins?

cb I've been using the crystals for about 4 yrs.
I'm not sure of the name but 6-8 oz plastic container clear crystals, rather $$ but I'm only into my 2nd container.
I use them in my container plants, and in the hole of new plantings.
Remember less is more.
1st time I used I had in 20 gal 1/2 barrel, used 2-3xs what was needed. The soil in the barrel bubbled up over the edge.
I had to scoop out handfulls if the jello like stuff.

Now I use little and make sure it's blended into a large hole when starting new plants, not too close to where you put the seedlings in.
After seeing how much liquid it holds I would think it'd pretty good for moisture retention.
Just don't overdo
Good Luck
