Molasses is very cheap to buy at feed stores or grain elevators. there would be no reason to try to make it yourself. if you type in molasses in the site search window you will find a lot of reading on molasses. hope this helps.

If I remember correctly an article I read a while back, sugar is usually made from sugar beets and sugar cane. The refining processes for either of those two crops results in 3 grades of sugar products, the lowest grade of those being molasses. The boiling processes would probably not be very cost efficient on a small scale to make it worth while to grow those crops in the back yard to extract molasses out of them.

molasses? its not that big a deal if you use it or if you do not.
with regard to mites and such you are better off not using it.
