Joe, with our mild, sometimes wet springs overhead can increase some disease...I have had some good luck with under the canopy watering. I have always used a watering wand.... but it takes time. Good luck in 08 Jim R

Joe,
I have overhead watered for the past 11 years and have had fine success. The important thing to remember in my opinion is that the foliage needs to dry before darkness comes or you will be inviting premature powdery mildew. As the daylight gets shorter in the fall I set my watering on a timer to water earlier giving the plants more drying time.
Also dryer is better than wetter IMO.

I overhead water when it is too hot to cool down the plants. That is what saved me come polenation time. If I have time I will water under the canopy by hand and try to do it as much as possible. I get lazy and place the sprinkler out so I just have to turn on the water valve.
