Lawns have stopped growing...I''ve been buying five pound bags of epsoma urea and mixing with compost accelerator to throw on the leaf piles...wondering if just pouring on ammonia/coke/beer mix would be just as good. my ten pound mix is running about a buck a pound and the leaves keep coming!!! Hey Gads my soil is also holding P and K got to be the clay nitrogen is depleted...and absolutely no boron in the sample...calcium levels are finally dropping! thanks for any advice....Chuck

straight ammonia cerainly works... i hear the coke and beer
adds sugar which the little microbes like also... the trick is figuring out how much to add and at what concentration.
since it is a leaf pile it's not as critical. a few years back i mixed jerry backer ammonia tonic in a 5 gal bucket and put it on my 3 plants... great idea till a few days latter my 865 mettler was burning up from the inside out.
the other plants were ok. i figured that i just did a poor job and mixing and there was a higher concentration in the last 3rd of the bucket.

Chuck,

$1 per lb is too much. Email me your zip code so I can check what we sell it for in your area.

46-0-0 Urea in a lb bag should run about $12-18 per bag depending on where in the country you are. That's less than $.30 per pound. It's even cheaper by the 20 ton trailer, but that would be a pumpkin plantation. Either way, it may be time for a new urea source.
As of Jan. 1st, the cost of urea will increase sharply for a while. Check the commodity futures if you doubt it. Ureas delivered cost is largely determined by the cost of natural gas & thats going up so.... Buy now for spring & things will go a little easier.

Chuckie,

The beer works real good for the compost pile! Compost works a lot quicker if you turn it and aerate frequently. Let me let you in on an old Navajo trick I learned! The beer works as good (if not better),AFTER you drink it.(Recycling works!) Just don't let your neighbors catch you "watering" the compost pile! Also wouldn't hurt to buy a batch of redworms to "work" the pile!

p.s. They'll look the other way when you "water"!

Sorry Guys...Bigpumpkins locked me out for the last few days somehow my "Favorites" address for big pumpkins got corrupted....kept getting a server not found...tried to get on five times a day for the last few finally got the shakes and emailed my support group who told it was me!!! Yikes! thanks for the info...yeah that epsoma stuff is five pound bags for small gardens but the only stuff I could find...gonna go with that recycled beer stuff too!!Since the piles are off the hill they keep pushing it down so the older piles keep getting rolled further down the hill the smoke is still rising in the morning so I guess they are cooking. thanks for the formula will do that too! thanks guys...Chuck
