how do they work and how do you set them up? any special kind of sprinkler heads? i just used drip irrigation last year on the hill where the main roots are.

you can continue to use the same drip irrigation system under the plants canopy.

id do the base like last year, then as the plant runs lay more down

sprinklers under the canopy will not work.

we water overhead with sprinklers in early a.m. during may and june. later in the season i usually water by hand underneath as needed.

water timers work good for sprinklers if your not going to be home

the main thing is to water in time enough for the plants leaves to dry before night

Sprinklers or sprayers under the canopy can work real well if you choose the right spray heads with a flat spray angle. In fact I think this would be a superior method of delivering teas and soil drenches... If you grow 10 plants this maybe to labor or cost intensive but just a couple plants is worth a try.

Misters work well under canopy, is that what you're thinking? Or is it actually sprinklers?

I used 50 misters under canopy on one plant last year and that system performed well. I did make the effort to drive the mister stakes as low as possible to minimize the amount of water hitting the leaves. The mister heads were standard fair, rated at 10 gph with a 360 degree/4 foot diameter distribution.
