I know soaker hoses are not as good as t-tape but i plan on using them this coming season in my patch.

I plan on laying them every 2' down the length of my patch. I figured i will need 550 feet of them.

I will run them the length direction on my patch, perpendicular to my secondary vines.

Is it a good idea to have them connected with shut-off connectors at each hose end so when the plants are young, i wont be watering the whole patch and wasting water?

also, where is a good place to start these hoses in the patch from the faucet on the house? My patch is 45' x 23' and i plan on growing 2 plants started in middle growing back to back.

thanks....

I am by no means a heavy hitter, but in my limited experience the soalker hoses i bought seemed to sprout bigger holes, i guess from too much pressure in the line?

if you still want to use soaker hose i would put a piece of regular hose until you hit the spot you want to start watering, i would also valves along the way as to not waist water (drought here in CA.)
I also do not like the idea of back to back if you do not have to do it, these creatures have HUGE root systems, and I wouldn't want them fighting for the same nutrients at the crown of the plant

I used a product kind of like T-Tape has emiters every 2 feet, but is made for vineyards much stronger. I made a line across the top of my patch and tee'd off all the other lines running the length of the patch. I put shutoff valves for each line so as you mentioned could save water and not leach nutrients until the plant was ready. T-tape or vineline is much cheaper especially if you need 550 feet worth.
