My granddaughter is trying to learn to raise a garden. She is really wanting to grow large pumpkins. Dr. Christen in Idaho has given us some seeds from large pumkins. We have started the seeds. We did this last year and they did grow and we had several large pumkins by local standards. We need information about how to get started to do better this year. She is doing the work and I'm the only person she has to give her advice. (Wow!) We need to know how larget to let the vines grow. How much and what type of fertizer to put on the pumplins. Anything about vine management. We've been told to bury the end of the vine to put all the growth in the pumkin. Please refer me to any articles for beginners if you would. Dick's tips is an excellent start.

Don Langevin's "How to Grow Giant Pumpkins 2" is highly recommended.

Give 1 vine 24' width x 16'+ length trained in the shape of a Christmas tree.

Oh yeah...this is the fertilizer & watering board..LOL

No fertilizer...get a soil test then add 4-6" of OLD composted manure & till it in with any other amendments recommended by the soil testing lab (lime, gypsum, etc).

The plants will need 1" of water minimum per week in the summer.
