Do you add solid compost/manure during the season or only in pre-season soil prep? I'm wondering if adding it during the season would help or if you only do liquid fertilizer once the plant is established.

we only add manures and/or compost, etc, in the fall or at the latest in the spring. better in the fall if you have it available.

if it is well broken down, why not add it during the season?

I have been using some well broken down compost throught the season to help cover the vines.....
