I'm planning on getting a dump truck load of cow manure over the next couple of weeks. Should I till it in now or leave it on top until the spring?

You want to get it well worked in this fall. I prefer to see the soil test done in the spring after things have had a chance to "meld".

For general gardening, it is advised to test prior to any amendments or soil prep. I believe this is because you need to know where you stand befor amending the soil ... and also due to natural tendancy for soil to seek natural PH and conditions over time. However, we know pumpkins love organics, so it is probably best to test in spring after organic amendments have settled to see where you stand befor planting ... so you know what to do after that. I would like to hear more on this subject because it does seem to run counter to general gardening.
