how cement can make your pumpkin heavier. But I'm intriqued by Don Crew's reference to cement lime in the CO2 thread.
What, if any, connection is there?

If you go to Tom Privitera's website, you will see that the CO2 product is a calcium carbonate (lime) spray. The lime in cement comes from limestone. I think the theory is that the carbon and oxygen portions are separated from the calcium to create carbon dioxide right where the plant will take it up. And the calcium part provides needed calcuim to the plant. You would need an acid to cause the chemical reaction to release the CO2. Kind of like adding vinegar to baking soda. I don't know where the acid would come from, unless there are natural acids in the leaves that would start the reaction. Maybe grinding the calcium carbonate up to extremely fine particle size would make the reaction easier to start. It is an interesting theory; who knows, maybe it does work.
