I have a few horses out at the farm. i do not have a compost pile brewing. Is it too late to somehow use the horse manure this year, to be beneficial. If i did start a compost pile how long would it take to be properly brokedown .

the only problem with using fresh manure is three things

1. nitrogen in your soil gets tied up while the manure is breaking down.
2. lots of weeds will grow in your patch, especially from fresh horse manure.
3. fresh manure is not as beneficial to the soil as one that is composted.

a decent compost pile of manure takes six to nine months minimum of heat along with turning every couple of weeks if you want it fully broken down.

there has got to be farms and /or composting facilities in your area. especially being from ohio.
