I try to have most of the nutrients in the soil at planting time. I try to go with mainly organic ammendments if possible, but due to wet weather and a broken truck, I had to use a little more artificial fertilizer than I like this year. So I will be making some compost tea to try to keep the soil bacteria level up. I use just a little organic fertilizer with beneficial bacteria and micorrhizae in the planting hole and at root nodes when burying vines. It is more for the micro-organisms than the fertilizer. This year I will also use a little compost in the trench when burying the vines. If I have a good one that starts to slow growth too soon, I might foliar feed with some Schultz tomato food, which has higher K to stimulate fruit growth. Also, if I run into a very wet period that leaches out a bunch of nitrogen and yellows the plants, I might consider adding a higher nitrogen fertilizer. But that is only an emergency treatment
