Does anyone have the formula to lower ph by using aluminum sulfate I have one garden 1620 sq feet the ph is 7.4 and the other garden is 5460 sq feet the ph is 7.3 I'm trying to get them to 6.8 thanks.

Adding alot of manure will also lower the pH....also pretty safe in my opinion! It will also increase the organic matter reading. Best way to go in my opinion....if you have the time.

Iron sulphate lowerd pH without the need for aluminum if the iron is testimg low or on.
Sulfer is used frequently here too.
Peat Moss is a fair acidifier too, though will take longer.

ammonium sulfate ? kill two birds with one stone.
elemental sulphur ? kill one bird with one shot- no excess baggage.

I agree with Don and Stan. You are not that far off the target 7.0 PH. Do what you can and don't worry about it. You would be in pumpkin heaven if you could add compost, manures and peat to drop a couple of tenths.

If I was going to lower my PH use sulfur and to get from 7.4 to 6.8 use about 1.3 lbs of sulfur/100 sq ft. to get to lbs /acre multiply by 435. This is for a loam soil. Sand use 1/2 lb/100 ft. Clay use 1.5 lbs/100 sq ft. This is out of Penn State small fruit guide.
