howdy ive read not to fertilize 2 weeks either side of pollination but if i pollinate 3 fruit that could span nearly 6 weeks is this neasacarry or does it apply to chemical fert only can fish seaweed molasses and teas be applied right through?

Hi nitrogen availability can adversely effect pollination. This can be caused by using high nitrogen ferts too close to pollination, too much manure or Nitrogen ferts early in the season, or even just too warm soil temperatures early in the season will create an over abundance of available nitrogen through increased mineralization. It is a bit of an art to know how much is enough. Last year many growers experienced pollination problems. many attributed this to too warm during pollination, but i think a lot had to do with increased nitrogen mineralization early in the spring.

Anyway, the short answer to your question is be careful feeding high nitrogen ferts around pollination. This would include foliar fish. Sea weed is fine to continue with.

Fertilizers high in phosphorous (the middle number) are ok during this time as Phosphorous will help improve pollination success.
