Part of my garden is over top my Geothermal bed which has trenches 5-6 foot deep for the lines, then filled in. they have settled for 3 years but becasue the soil is disturbed and not virgin soil, it is not as compacted. Any of my plants(corn, pumkins, sunflowers, ect) all grow much taller and bigger right above the trench. My thought is where you plant your seeds dig a deep hole then burry it in and the roots will get deeper fatser to the added moisture. Any thoughts from anyon as I am new to this BIG Pumkin growing.

The roots will always go deeper in soft soil.
The interesting part of post is the heat part.
How hot does it actually get???

I'm supprized you haven't got any more responces. I'm too new to give expert info, but, from reading posts in the past seven to eight months, I think the decussion went like such: root can get upto (down to)18 inches deep or more. The subject of digging a trench or deep spot at the point of the stump filling it with added manure and such brought up that it is needfull to break up the hardpan. The layer of earth just below shovel or tiller depth. AG's roots need a depth of 18-24 to get that big one. The next topic that you'll need to concider is drainage. If you dig a trench it may hold the moisture, busting up the hardpan will allow even drainage! Hope this helps, it was enlightening to me! BSD,David

Firefly,
That is a very good point about the heat. I know as I run the AC in the summer it does put the heat into the ground. I will ask my Geothermal guy for an output temp of the fluid. I do know it gets hot enogh to produce Hot Water as a by product for my hot water heater. I will find out and post back.

NealDeal, would be cool, if you had a soil temp probe, and did different readings...say 6", 12", & 18"...just to see what yer soil temp really is?? Peace, Wayne
PS...yes they make soil temp probes that long!!! LOL
