Hi !
A few weeks ago, my plants were much bigger than the guy who won the weighoff 2 years ago. After a while, my pumpkin was also ( much ) bigger than his pumpkin.
Now I came back from holiday and his plants were HUGE !!!! I don't know what he gave them and my plants were much bigger then his and now his plant is a real monster....
I'm still very happy that his pumpkin isn't bigger ! ( yet ? )
Can anyone tell me what he possibly gave them or tell me what makes your leaves growing like a beast ?
Another thing, please look @ my diary, when your pumpkins are that big, which fertilizer should I give them ? I mean 15-10-20 or ....

Thanks in advance.
Stijn.

A organic fish and kelp based fertilizer should do the trick for you. A lot of growers use Neptunes Harvest. I am not sure what you have over there for fish and kelp fertilizer.

It is possible they are bigger for what he did NOT give them. Plants sometimes respond to chemical applications by not growing. Have you made any chemical applications that were followed by warm weather? How about sunlight & water? Too little of either will slow you down. Too much water could have a similar effect. How about pest pressure?

Coventional practice calls for a reduction of fertilizer in the post fruit set period with emphasis being on potassium (last number) such as 5-10-31 or 0-0-60 etc.

I just got some 0-0-60 fertilizer, and the last number was 60%muriate of potash. Should the last number be potassium or potash? Dottie

Sorry! I just read the label, Potash supplies potassium.

Take it easy with the Muriate of potash, it will burn your plants and has a very high salt content.

From what I have read here, it seems like my bag of 0 0 60 potash will remain unused. Is there a safe rate of applying it with no "blow ups"? Or should I leave it in the bag to avoid any catastrophies?
