I want to start using a hose attachment (like the one you get with miracle grow)to fertilize my pumpkins. I have some water soluble 5-10-40 Age Old Organic fertilizer that I want to use but don't know how much I should put in the hose attachment. I had been using one tablespoon per gallon when I watered with a bucket. I was also wondering how long I should continue to fertilize my pumpkins. Thanks.

Miracle Gro is also one tbl spoon per Gallon in the bucket so if you put the same amount of your fertilizer in the sprayer as it calls for Miracle Gro the proportions should be correct. One quick warning though, if you have any clumps it will clog the sprayer and you will have hours of cleaning little hloes out. Hope this makes sense!

If you are using something such as a "20-gallon" hose end sprayer, (which is a common inexpensive attachment,) the entire bottle does 20 gallons, so you would use 20 Tablespoons. Chances are there isn't enough room for that much so you can use 5 TBS and fill with water 1/4 of the bottle. This would spray 5 gallons before it is empty and at a rate of 1 TBS per gallon. You would have to adjust proportionally for a different sprayer.

If you have an Ortho Dial-n-Spray, you would set it for 4 ounces, add 1TBS fertilizer and 4oz of water for every gallon you need. For example, if it took you 8 gallons of mix to water all your plants, you would use 8 Tablespoons of fertilizer & 32oz of water in the jar, and when it is empty, you sprayed 8 gallons. 4 gal=4TBS+16oz water, 2gal=2TBS+8oz water, etc etc.

If you have a liquid concentrate or a liquid insecticide, you can just pour it into the Ortho sprayer, set the dial to how many tsp/TBS/oz recommended per gallon, & have at it. When you're done spraying everything, pour any remainder back into the original bottle--water doesn't enter into the sprayer so whatever is left is pure/undiluted.
Dial'n Spray® Hose-End Sprayer links below. Hope this helps.

I have been useing the miracle grow for tomato's and the #'s are 18-18-21, Iwas also told at a firtilizer dealer that for my area to use 20-20-20 at the rate of 1 tbl per gallon on 10 sq feet I stoped my plant at 22'x 5'( it's wider than that but this was easy to figure) so that is 110sqf witch is 11 gal'I use a dial-n-spray set at 4oz and put in 8tbls of firt, and fill the jar to 32oz then spray till empty then I put in 1/2 that amount again (thats 12 gallons Total)and empty again,
the guy at the firt dealer say's do this 2 or 3 times a week and this will make it Go-Grow-or BLOW!! LOL, so I am watching very close.

I usually drench with the higher numbers & foliar spray with the lower number stuff like fish or seaweed, but someone with more experience will probably jump in and tell you what is safe without burning leaves. You can always dilute it to make it weaker.

I thing Miracle Gro for Tomatoes is 18-18-21.

I use SeaPlus which is fish & kelp/seaweed, which contains many micro-nutrients (I think 20+) and it is 3-2-2, so you can use it regularly, and Maxicrop seaweed/kelp (also many micro-nutrients), which is 1-0-4. Miracle Gro has the N-P-K plus about 4 or 5 nutrients. If you want a water soluble powder with micro-nutrients, look for "Peters Professional" 20-20-20 "with Micro-nutrients". It comes in a yellow container instead of white.

Maybe someone can help on how safe 20-20-20 is as a foliar spray & the recommended rate?

The Peter's is what the guy at the firt dealer told us to use, wich contains many micro-nutrients also, but like I said we just started to use it so we realy dont know what is going to happen yet.

H-K-J: If your plant is 22x5 then size may be your problem. 110sqf is roughly 110 leaves, and I think I remember hearing that 150 leaves was some kind of suggested minimum. Just a thought...an inch a day does seem low. --Bruiser
