does anyone think that ocean water could be used as a type of fertilizer if it was diluted??? Its gotta have tons of nutrients,,,anybody ever tried it???Going to the beach,,thinking of getting a gallon and try on my 2 plants that are not doing well,,,,,,,

Nutrients, sure, but what about the salt?? I don't remember seeing too many weeds at the beach. My guess is that it will do more harm than good. If I was bringing back something from the beach it would be seaweed. --Bruiser

I don't know what sea water will do, but U C Davis ag. dept. has new genetic tomatoes that will grow under salty conditions. It was on the news last week.

If you're going to do it put it on a pumpkin plant you can afford to lose because I think the salt would be detrimental.

friends, romans, countrymen, lend me your ears...... didn't the romans pour salt into the soil when they sacked the city of carthage? i thought that was so that nothing would grow in there farm lands.

As far as I know, the only thing that salt doesn't bother is asparagus. I use it to control weeds and it does no harm to the (asparagus) plants. Wouldn't want it in my AG patch though!

Pump the seawater over a 1/4 inch mess screen...throw away what goes through the screen....rinse the fish and put them in your compost bin...use next year as fertilizer.
