I am need of information concerning soil preparations, as i plan to do some this year. I havn't done soil prep before and still manage to get a 668 lbs pumpkin. What should you put in your soil and what kind of cover crop should you recommand for the winter?

Thanks

Go to my diary and read up. There are many other diaries that speak of fall preps.

Cory you need a soil sample. Search for A&L labs London ON. They have a good web site. Co-op in your Wakerton area will do soil samples as well, they send them to Guelph. About $30.00 each. Call me Wed. evening and we can talk. Dwaine(docgipe) & Steve,(Tremor)have really been a tremendous help to me. Leaves get all you can. They are the cheapest source going. I am pretty far along in my 300sq.ft. patch prep. I have added many different things. Calcium Magnesium Sulphate 210lbs, Dried Kelp 14lbs, Dolimitic Limestone 15lbs, Horse Manure 8 yards, Dried Molasses 50lbs., Organic Ferts 30lbs, Peat Moss3 bails, Triple mix soil 16 yards, Corn meal 50lbs, Leaves & Compost 4 yards, Cow manure 1 yard & grass clippings. I also have a couple of books Dwaine hooked me up with you can borrow. Soil sample is the most important though, it will tell you exactly what you need you do.

Have a soil test done before adding anything. Then you can add all the good organic material you can find while we wait for the results to arrive. Post the findings here & we'll figure out the next move.
