The preferred leaf stock is maple...Many complain of phenols in the oak leaf while they break down..I can tell you this that once they are broken down turn into nice dark OM..So probably best to compost for a year before using if you got space to be on the safe side.

Oak leaves also contain a bit more lignin than Maple so are more resistant to decay. They tend to acidify a bit more too. This is easy to correct with Lime though.

Unless you grind them to very small pieces they take forever to go into humus. 10% of the leaf mix is not so bad in my mind for any nut producing tree leaf as a rule of thumb.
