I've heard a lot about liquid kelp or seaweed. I know I could probably find some online, but before I jump, a question...How does it help and how do you use it. ANy and all tips appreciated.

Liquid fish,kelp, or seaweed can be mixed with your other fertilizer or sprayed on as a foliar feed. either way you can't go wrong with it. It can be bought online at Neptunesharvest.com...Hope this helps.....Paul
P.S. foliar feeding seaweed does help against some disease's.

when you say floiar,,you mean liquid fert with a spray attachment to your hose,,,right??

I have a Black & Decker battery operated sprayer. Holds 3 gallon of water. I mix 3 gallon of water to 4 oz. fish-seaweed then spray the whole plant. I use this same mixture on all my plants, flowers & grass. Neighbors are always asking what I do to get everything looking so good.....Paul

You can foliar feed many ways; it generally means spraying the plant instead of adding fertilizer to the ground. Simplist way is add to water in a watering can. Can also use a hose end sprayer or an inline attachment spraying thru a hose nozzle or sprinkler. Because the fertilizers are lower N-P-K numbers, you can get away with foliar feeding more regularly (such as daily.)
I use SeaPlus 3-2-2 liquid fish & kelp and also Maxicrop 1-0-4 which is a seaweed/kelp powder. Both have many micro-nutrients and are available from Pinetree Garden Seeds, www.superseeds.com. S/H is $2.95. (They also sell the How to Grow Giant Pumpkins I & II books for $8.98 & $9.98)
I use the water can method but also use a "20 gallon" hose end sprayer and an Ortho Dial'nSpray hose end sprayer. The 20 gallon sprayer actually holds about 32oz but if you fill it & spray until empty, it would have sprayed 20 gallons of mix. The Dial'nSpray is adjustable from I think 1 teaspoon to 8oz. Water never runs thru it so you can return the unused liquid to its original container without any problems. You simply set the dial for the recommended rate such as 1 Tablespoon per gallon & start spraying. You can also spray dry water soluble fertilizers by adding some water, such as 1 TBS mix with 4oz of water, 2 TBS with 8oz water, etc. Set it to 4oz and it would spray the same as 1 TBS per gallon rate. etc etc

Mark- Have you ever used the Dial'nSpray with water soluble fertilizers like Miracle Grow? I was wondering if the fertilizer dissolved sufficiently in water to be used in one of these sprayers. If so I would expect the application rate to be ore consistant than from the Miracle Grow feeders. Thanks. --Bruiser

but using hose end sprayer with kelp ans seaweed still gets the same results,,right? Plant just gets it sooner thru foliar..

I've used the Dial'nSpray with SeaPlus, Maxicrop, MiracleGro 15-30-15, Peters 20-20-20 with Minors, Jack's Classic 20-20-20 (Jack PETERS), Calcium Nitrate, Sudbury 0-0-44 water soluble, etc, as well as Daconil, Methoxychlor, Malathion, Bug-B-Gon CONCENTRATE (esfenvalerate), W-T, Insecticidal Soap, etc. All with no problems. The good part about it is the trigger--you can pulse it if it clogs or just shake it up a bit, or turn the dial thru the higher settings. To clean it out, this is what Ortho recommends doing after use (run it thru various settings with water.)

Alun (in this thread: <html><a href="http://www.bigpumpkins.com/MsgBoard/ViewThread.asp?b=10&p=4865"> Foliar Feeding Recommendations?</a>)</html> actually recommended 3x the recommended soil amount for foliar feeding but I didn't try that yet, not sure if he meant triple strength or 3 applications. Low #'s like 5-1-1 or 3-2-2 wouldn't worry me at 3x but 0-0-44 or 30-30-30 at 3x might.

Yo mark,
Yes I use 3x the recomended dose in each application and spray the leaves top and bottom. A few years back I used 5x the recomended dosage for the last few weeks...sounds a bit strong I know...but I grew a 743lber..second biggest in Europe at that time..and still the 3rd biggest now...so it worked for me.
