Saw this in the Peaceful Valley Farm Supply Catalog. Calls it an organic soil builder that is essentially a blue-green algae that acts as a tiny cover crop DURING the season. Any one heard of this or use this?

I read about it somewhere but it was only for use on grass lawns.

I had fun researching this one. Never had heard of this preperation by name. Found the manufacturer & was interested enough to contact them directly.

It's a facinating idea I'll say that. They claim the algea produces/fixes upwards of 1/2 lb of N/1000 sq ft per application. One hald pound of Microp treats up to 15,000 sq ft. So for a change a new technology isn't absurdly expensive.

I also found the testomonials of an organic potatoe farmer who has been using it. He claims it's working for him but that hilling & cultivating breaks the algal barrier & destroys it. So he must either reapply or time his treatments around hilling.

I guess this could be a bother for us too as we're burying vines. But I still find it very interesting.

I asked them to contact me since I see possible commercial possibilities here.

Matt, If you do use it this year please keep me informed. If it serves to create a weed resistant barrier as well I would really be interested.

at $13.95 for what amounts to 15 applications, It's definitely on my shopping list this year. I'll keep you all posted.
