I have heard that pumpkins can be milk "fed". Is this true, and how does a person do it? What else can be fed to a pumpkin?

Milk feeding pumpkins just might be the biggest wive's tale I know. It does not do anything for the plant.

Actually if milk were sprayed on the leaves often enough, then a degree of Powdery Mildew supression is expected. But it won't help the pumpkin grow.

Steve, I have heard of a story using foliar applications of sour cream to prevent mildew as well.

Baking soda as well. Anything that increases the pH of the leaf surface makes for a poor environment for the PM causal pathogen to live. So long as it doesn't harm the leaves doing it. :o)

Milk on your plant? NO! I can't even ingest the stuff anymore... makes me fart. My wife likes to put milk in her coffee. YUCK.

I like cheese though.

I knew someone who did this, a first year grower who used large syringes to inject milk and Miracle Gro into the hollow stems on the leaves. The pumpkin grew huge but I think it was more due to the constant care he gave to it.
