I am a relative newbie with my best pumpkin at 140lbs or so. Anyhow, I need to know, is the "composted cow manure" that you can buy in a bag at say a Home Depot store, the same thing as the cow manure that growers would put on there patch. I understand that it has both compost and manure mixed, but other then that would this be OK to add. Where do you get fresh manure? All I can find at garden stores is the composted stuff? Living in Denver, Colorado ares. Thanks for any

For the most part, bagged manure is same as from the farm manure. Some companys will pulverize the product first and some will try to kill off weed seeds. It will work in the patch, but would be very expensive if you wanted to spread a few inches throughout your patch. Try to find a farmer in your area with horses/cows. Most have aged piles of it and are happy to get rid of it. Steve

If you have no trailer or pickup truck get five gallon paint buckets with lids for hauling manure. For years this is how I hauled it three buckets full at a time. I still haul coffee grounds in five gallon buckets with lids.

Quite often bagged dehydrated cow manure is cut with Peat Moss. Keeps the weight & cost down.

I cleaned out barns, chicken coops, and "field piles" for years in search of the elusive turd ( Like I don't get enough of them popping up here). Seriously though if you have a small patch just for the one big whopper, then go for the cheepest bagged manure you can find and till it into your sunny spot. Good Luck and welcome aboard Partner!

Thanks for the responsed guys! I have just three spots that are about 300 sq feet each. It turns out that at $1.09 a bag, the manure from home depot is the cheapest way from me to go after I caclualte indelovery charges and such. But I will take the adivce and try to find the free stuff first. Thanks alot
