When can you start spraying the plant with molasses? Right from the beginning?

You don't have to wait to have a plant, you can spray molasses now on the soil in the patch to kick start the microbial activity....

Ditto with this added! I like to use the fish, kelp and molasses a little heavier to the soil in the cold early tilling period. I treat the whole patch by drench weekly and use a quart spray bottle to do foliar on the small plant. I work up to the whole two gallon treatment by foliar when the patch is full. I use two ounces of each per gallon of water. Try to use water treatments at about the same temperature as ambient air at the time of the foliar treatment.

Tomato Grower Yes... check out a feedmill or horse tack shop for feedgrade molasses..Mix 2 ounces to a gallon of water. Make sure the water is atleast warm. Shannon

Would it hurt to till the dried feed grade into the soil? They kind of look like little pellets,but are livestock feed.Thanks for the info.

No, No, the pellets are actual livestock feed treated to tast sweet to the beasts... The molasses you are seeking is allways in a thick brown liquid form; look at it's label ingredients and shy away from any with sulpher (preservitive) additives, "feed grade" is the ticket and cheepest in a five gallon pail.

If you don't live in an agricultural area don't give up on it. I had only found one source, a railcar full, like I was going to get a railcar full! Then I found there was a feed store five minutes away. Keep searching. Alex.

I found some today ,it was in the form of stump licker molasses for attracting deer and spraying on hay for cattle.

That's is fine for the Ky Patch. Keep asking and looking. I am almost sure the real cattle grade at about $3.00 a gallon is out there somewhere, for most of us. I bought my first six ounces at the very expensive grocery store.

Depending, on your usage, it takes about two gallons, for a one thousand square foot patch, per year.

Warning...if you live in bear country do not store it in a less than well built out building. Every year we have at least one hunting camp, within our area, torn apart by a bear that was attracted by the aroma, of molasses.
