I finally went and picked some up after hearing people talk about it. Is this something that can be used season long, or now that the blooms are coming out, would this be counter-productive?

Thanks,

Matt

Advice on my calcium fertilizer is to use it AFTER fruit set for all kinds of curcurbita plants. Should make sense because calcium works for better cell structure, against blossom end decay and so on.

I think Cal-Nitrate works better helping the plant in cool weather. I spread some at planting time, to get the plant off to a good start, and if the plant is still growing well in Sept.(a slow month for growth here), I may add a little. I wouldn't use it any other time.

Ingo, what product are you using and where is it available?
Thanks,

Martin, look here:
http://www.lebosol.de/produkte/calcium/index.html
or here:

With both companies you need to phone or email to locate a dealer in your area.

I used "Algenkalk" last year which is 81% Calcium Carbonate and 12% Magnesium Carbonate on my pumpkins but it's not water soluble to any large extent and probably didn't help the pumpkin at all from what I now know. It's good to add Calcium to the soil but not for the pumpkin surface.

I'll look into the websites you gave us Ingo and see if I can locate some Calcium Nitrate there.
I bought the Algankalk at a local garden center here in Merklingen.
