Glenn,,,it has little tiny heads forming in top of plants,,,what do I do from this point to make sure they stay pretty and plump??You said something bout a net over the top to keep pests out,,,I'm assuming insects will love the heads also,,,,any suggestions to help me out??My carrots are starting to produce also,,long tap roots,,does the top of carrots suppose to be exposed? They are below ground with nothing but the carrot vine exposed....Thanks in advance....

Hmmm...never had a carrot vine on me......... As for the broccolli...just let it grow...a row cover of that white sheet stuff(row cover) might keep your white butterflies at bay. i used birdnetting to keep the birds from pecking at the broccolli heads...found it in any garden center....the darn house finches and sparrows would land on the plants and peck at the heads. Maybe they were eating the bugs? But i doubt it...I would have seen the bugs first......just let'm grow and cut the heads while tightly budded and before the heads start turning yellow(flowering)...cut the bunch and leave the plant...you'll get little side buds and you can gather those too.......G

WOW,,my broccoli took three nights of 20 degrees for over 6 hours a night. It seems to have helped it,,plants that didnt have heads showing now has them showing. No birds yet G,,but those darn little worms never go away,,lol,,, Now a question for my carrots,,,,,,they are awful young carrots on the vines,,will they stop growing cause of the very cold weather,,or will they continue to grow? The temps are back to 60 during the day,,and 30's at night..Just wondering if I should go ahead and pull them,,no need in keeping them in the ground if they aint gonna get any bigger....Thanks,,,J

carrots should do great there with those temps. It is about the same here and carrots are grown by the thousand of acres here year round
