I think I will have a try at growing giant marrows this year. Does anyone know what part of the vine you want the marrow to grow on? Main vine or laterals? Which part of the vine has more females? Any suggestions? Thanks Spudley.

They are quite like a minature AG plant the flowers show up in the same places.
I'm growing mine as a small xmas tree about 10 x 10 with a fruit set on the main if possible last year I had some later ones on laterals and they seemed to do just as well.
I had about half a dozen 60-70lbers on a 15 x 15 plant.
Took about 3 months from sowing to harvesting the first one in late July. They are more susceptable to PM than AG's.

Matfox, I think you mean John Evans and yes I have talked to him. Because I'm his main rival, he is pleasant mind you but not that forth coming with information. Has amnesia when asked about variety names. That's ok I don't blame him.
AXC, should I use a prevenative fungicide right away say weekly or later in the year when PM is more likely to be a problem? I may have stared my plants a little to soon. It's my first attempt at growing giant marrows. Sure hope they keep well in the fridge? Our show isn't untill the end of August. Thanks for the info guys and I'm sure I'll have many more questions than answeres. Spudley

It didn't show up in my patch until later on but I wouldn't want to put anyone off a regular spray programme.
