When I planted my squash this year, I found I had misplaced my bush buttercup squash. I planted some sweet dumpling squash and also some seed I had saved from a kubocca type squash a couple of years ago. I have used my own seed before with great luck. However, this year, I have some weird looking beings (I have pics of them posted in my diary) I suspect my giant pumpkins must have crossed with my squash two years ago. They are yellow but have a squash bottom with a bit of green striping. I have some normal looking squash but they are few and far between. I guess the pumpkins (that I elected not to grow this year) have the last laugh. If anyone has the time take a look at the pics in my diary and let me know what you think. Thanks, Sue

Could be you are right but it is unlikely. Saving seed from hybred named varietys gives you the option to grow just about anything in their genetical background.

Hi ....thanks for replying to my possible squash crossed with pumpkin problem. Did you have a peek at the pics I posted? The buggars are growing bigger every day and
have a distinct AG look to them....pale yellow, big and round. One of them has a nice round green buttercup bottom on it. They don't look a bit like squash other than that. I have never seen a squash look so much like a pumpkin and not be one. LOL. Guess I will know when I cut into one this fall. I will probably carve it for halloween. The seed I used when I planted were small and orange....very squash like. Hmmm...you said that using the saved seed from hybrids would give me the option of growing just about anything in their background....does that mean there were pumpkins in their background????? Could they look like a pumpkin and still taste like squash? *grin*. Not a good idea to plant seed from this type of squash huh?
