New World Record Onion at Harrogate yesterday.

The old record stood for a long time and was real hard to beat.

It was grown from the Lamb strain,Somebody told me this was the onion to get a week before the record was set and he was right.
I think seed/plant availability will be limited as the horse has only just been let out of the stable.

AXC, What is the Lamb strain? The only big onions I have heard of are Ailsae.

There are 2 main varieties for growing the Giants. One being the famous Kelsae and the other, as you have stated, is Ailsae. Ailsae is a variety developed from the Ailsa Craig and Kelsae varieties being crosed some years back. The Lamb strain is a strain of Onion from the Kelsae Variety which has been developed and grown on by the person who gave it the name lamb Strain. I will be having a chat with John, who now holds the New World Record, sometime next week.

I hope that explains a little about the naming of the Strain.
Regards
Mike
