OK we are in the process of moving down the road. So I would like to set the cut off date for the 2006 Giant Veggie Exchange for New years Day.. How the process works is you send your prepackaged seeds for 15-20 exchanges. I Take and combine everything and send them back out. All I ask is that whatever you send be from a controlled pollination.. Anything Giant or Unique is fair game..
Any questions holler.

OK just to clear up a few questions. This is not a Giant Pumpkin or Squash Seed Exchange..Although that is not a bad idea just one I am not ready to tackle. It is an exchange of seeds of those other crazy vegetables you see. Like a 25lb cabbage, 48lb Marrow, 168lb Watermelon, 54 lb Canteloupe, or a 90 inch long gourd. Sign up now in the next 24 hours and you will get a free package of G's Hot and Spicy Yellow Hungarian Peppers. I think he sent 1 lb last year. Return Postage normally runs about $1-1.50. I supply the bubble. Heck working for 3M has some perks. :)

Can we get a show of hands as to who is contibuting this year. So we can get an idea of numbers and varieties still needed. I will be throwing in my seeds from a 48lb Marrow.
Thanks.

I'm planning on send marrow seeds (Bernard Lavery & Richard Hope seeds), Bott's strain sunflowers, some other giant sunflower varieties (depending on how many I have left of each variety), and some Jala maize, and some Mexican June maize, but I don't have a tremendous amount to give of the maize.

just to clear this up. i want to be a part of this again but you said, "All I ask is that whatever you send be from a controlled pollination.."

long gourds and cantalopes are sketchy so are they acceptable as is ?? i didnt polinate my cantalopes but i could donate some from my 32 lber. i try polinating long gourds but dont cover after so they arent controlled.

Shannon,

I have packaged up my seeds, and I just have to take it to the post office to get postage on it. When you send these back out, do you list information on them, such as weight of parent, who grew it, etc.? That way, you know who you can contact if you want to ask some questions, and you will know if you had similar size as the person who sent in the seed.

I just re-read your first post. *smacks head* I'm suppose to pre-package 15-20 of them myself? You want 15-20 individual ziploc baggies with all the the varieties in them? What I did was put all the maize (enough for 15 to 20 people) in one baggie, all the marrows (enough for 15 to 20 people) in another baggie, all the Bott's Strain sunflowers (enough for 15 to 20 people) in another baggie, Craven sunflowers (enough for 15 to 20 people) in another baggie, etc. You wouldn't be able to tell what sunflower was what if they were all mixed together. I sent Jala Valley landrace maize, mexican june maize, bott's strain sunflower, craven sunflower, cravenXBott sunflower, RipleyX(CravenXBott), Kong Hybrid sunflowers, giant marrows, and red amaranth from 8-10 ft. plants. Do you need me to re-package everything???? I don't think I even have enough baggies to get all of that in without mixing them. I have it all in the package and ready to go. I just need postage. Ugh!

I don't mind packaging some of the seeds. It just makes it a lot easier, with prepackaged. I just think the giant veggie exchange is a good way to distibute these garden oddities. Thanks to all the people participating.

You see why I was saying that I didn't have enough little ziploc baggies for all the seeds to separate all the different varieties of seeds. :-)
