Am looking to Grow a few Giant Watermellon in 2006 and looking for some input.
What kind of soil conditions do they need? compared to Pumpkins?
When do you normally start them outdoors and transplant outdoors?
Does the same go with Watermellons as for pumpkins as far as pollination goes plant size? how many fruit per plant ext?
any information would be great thanks Dave

Dave Watermelons will grow fine in your pumpkin patch, but like the PH a little lower than pumpkins. We start them indoors @ the 10th of April. We hand pollinate our watermelons and only leave one fruit per plant. Hope this helps. We will be posting an article this winter about growing giant watermelons on our club's website (www.gvgo.ca). My wife Jane grew the new Canadian Record this season with a 207.6#. Seeds will be available through the GVGO or by contacting me directly. Limited supplies. Dave, you will receive some when you renew your membership.
