Hi. Looking for some info on growing these. The finer points would be nice, but I really just need the basics (sq.ft., fertilizer, planting times, and all that). Also, is a giant canteloupe the same as a muskmelon? Thanks, AleX Noel.

The melon that Americans call cantaloupe--the most popular melon in the United States--is actually a muskmelon. True cantaloupe comes from Europe and has a rough, warty surface quite unlike the netted rind of our familiar fruit. The khaki-colored skin of an American cantaloupe has green undertones that ripen to yellow or cream.

The giant Cantaloupe we grow are Green. I grew one this year to 28.9 lbs. Check my diary for a pic. I treated it similar to my AG's. The need a growing area of about 10 X 20 ft. The mature a little faster than AG's so start them a little later depending on when you want the fruit to ripen. The need to be transplanted at the first true leaf. Don't hold them they don't like to be transplanted. If you want seeds....e-mail me privetly.
