My neighbor put epsom salt on two tomatoe plants last year and treated the other two normally. In this case, there was no significant difference.

I found a website that talks about the effects of epsom salts on a variety of veggies and roses.

randy(2), what ratio do you use? 1 teaspoon per gallon, 10 teaspoons per gallon? Thanks for any input.

I sprinkle some epsom salt in the hole and throw in a Calcium/Vitamin D tablet (500mg) and a Centrum vitamin. I use about a teaspoon per gallon for tomatoes and a teaspoon per quart for peppers. This year, I'm adding Klay-Soft brand Gypsum, they recommend 1 lb per plant for tomatoes. Last year, I skipped the Centrum on my cauliflower and they were the worst I've ever grown. Epson salt works for tomatoes and even more so for peppers.

Last year Kevin Smith used a mixture containing epsom salt on his pumpkins as a pick-me-up with good success. Check last year's Mallorn list posts.
