Hmm, that Fruit looks like a Quince to me but not 100 % sure. The victorians were very partial to Quince Jelly and many victorian kitchen gardens had several Quince trees to supply the fruit.

The Quince came to America on the Mayflower or an early following ship. Some very fine new named varieties have been introduced, by Miller Nuserys, in New York.

When that fruit dries on the tree it stays on the tree and looks like a dried walnut, I have some even now that are still hanging on and not dropped off yet. So you think its a Persimmon tree or a quince?

just looked at that photo Tremor, none of the fruit start out green or have been green yet like the Permission photo, on my tree the fruit are all a whitish color and also has milk snakes init.

One more thing, the fruit look simular but I noticed the fruit on my tree grows just the opposite way,

the clove is on top of the fruit growing from the stem from the permission
and on my tree the cloves are on the bottom of the fruit.
