How long will it take to grow a giant marrow. We are shooting for a September 9th fair date. When should we plant? Thanks for the help.

Kristine. Giant Marrow's should be planted at the same time as and grown with the same techniques as used for growing Giant Pumpkins/Squash. Once you have one Marrow at its maximum external dimentions, which happens much quicker than Giant Pumpkins/Squash, you can then allow another to set and continue to allow them to set until the end of the growing season. This will give you a choice of Marrows to choose from to enter for competition.

Ah, i just noticed that you are in CA. You will find that Giant Marrow plants will wilt quicker and suffer from the heat much more than Giant Pumpkins/Squash. Extra shading will be needed if you want to get the best out of those Giant Marrow plants.
