I have noticed holes in the leaves of our rhubarb. One day I even saw a green caterpillar on the underside and believed that this caterpilar was the culprit. Early this morning I noticed that there were brown spots on the rhubarb some of the spots were forming into holes. Could this a sign of a deficiency in the soil? Thanks.

I would like to see anything that can eat a rhubarb leaf, and live. They are extremelly high in oxalic acid and poisonus to most creatures. The brown spot could be from burn marks after a light rain followed up by a period of sun. We give our some compost every once in a while, and it grows like weeds.

Shannon, I know they are high in oxalic acid. I had no other explanation though until I saw the brown spots today. Thanks for the explanation about the burn marks. It is a really good possibility. Pumpkin Lisa, also thank you for your input. It just may also be the mulch too close to the plant. We are just first year planters nd we are just learning.. Thanks to both of you for the help.
