just wondering if it is too late to start these things?? i was not going to grow a giant watermelons or loupes but, i changed my mind. I put them in a 4 inch pot today and started them. 3 168 Johnsons, 3 100 Wentzells, and 4 26 lb Lehman cantaloupes. Plus some gords sent to me by pinenut and Shellie cramer.
Just wondering if i am starting too late?? any help would be appreciated.
Thanks casey

Case,
I don't think it's too late for loupes, melons ripen fast, and it's a long haul to October. I started mine around June 1 last year, had a 16.25# and 11# muskmelon, but the secret with these is measure the fruit and pick when they stop growing (keep in refrig.) These things will ripen and go from green to orange overnight, once they do, they won't keep very long. On the other hand,I think watermelon is probably a little too late for any really big fruits.
