It's getting to that point. I have too many melons on each of my plants, and I have to choose. Yes, It's nice when one has hail damage, or a funny growth pattern, but what do you do when all the melons look great.

Which one do you choose? Primary vine? Closer to stem? Longer female fruit? Better vine placement?

Of course I reminded of the story of when Bill Carson grew the original 262 world record, he also had a 190+ pounder on the same plant. Maybe I should leave two melons, but which two?

Of course as the Highlander would say. "In the end, there can be only one".

159 ott, my goodness, and here Im worried about just having a melon...Guess I'll have to try harder next year. My opinion would be save the one melon that is the easiest to get to without stepping on the soil too much. Just my opinion from a novice.

I measured my melons on Tuesday, and as of yet haven't typed in the results, but they are looking much better than last year. Of course nothing as big at the 159, but I think if the melons were that big right now, they would probably be over ripe before the competition.

Here's some ott measurements from the patch (135, 119, 109, 132.5, 135, 108, 126.5, 113, 121.5, 121).

My 225 last year at this time was 119, so I currently have seven melons already bigger than that.

I looked over last year's notes, and I have a note next to my first weigh for the 225 melon that says it had a pointed end. Let's just say it got over it.
