My wife planted some kind of squash in our garden this year. It's about basketball sized, and looks just like a pumpkin except that it's green. Also the leaves on the plant are cut back in lobes unlike the leaves on an AG. We have no clue what these are and are wondering if they are really good for anything. Thanks for the help!

All the research I've done points to buttercup squash. Except that they are only supposed to grow to 3-4pounds. The ones we have are at least 10-12 pounds. Maybe I will have something to bring to the fair.

Could just be some kind of hard stem field pumpkin. They normally start out green like that, then turn orange later.
