I have a sunflower that I have entered in our county fair. What do I need to do to the flower head to get it ready? Do I need to have the head dried and the seeds ripe? I've never entered a sunflower before. It's just the head of the flower, not the entire stalk that is entered. Any and all help will be appreciated. Thanks~CG

I just cut mine off and brought it in and put the tag on it. Nothing special. Look out people pick the seeds out and make a mess if they can reach it. Some may even take a few and try to beat you with your own seed next year. It was my first year entering a sunflower head and I won blue ribbon. It was great! They awarded based on circumference. Mine was 49" around. Good luck!

Thanks for your help. Don't think mine is that big, but it's still going. ~CG
