Has anyone used red plastic mulch, and did you notice a difference?

when my daughter was competing at the state science fair there was a young man the had a project on the difference of using red plastic mulch or not using it. He did a great job on tomatoes and proved the mulch increased yield by 37% over the plants without the mulch
