The prize money wasnt much, $10 first place, but when you grow a 452 lb pumpkin and they give the credit to another guy, well, needless to say, no amount of apology would work. It wasnt like in the paper, it was on the radio and the man who was in charge, personally knows me. Im sure he corrected it the next time he was on the radio but I didnt care. Ive learned my lesson, I wasnt part of the good ole boys club..Im a woman. Well, I found a better way, just dont enter. I let the little boy next door enter my vegies, if he wants. ok, thats enought, dont want to ruin my whole day reliving this aggrivation..

missed deadline, but they let enter. I registered 19 enteries for fair, hoping to show that many. we are lucky to have a great fair judge, who teaches us how to improve on showing for the previous yr. the judge before him was a barecat.

The most important thing in entering a fair contest is that all the enteries on the plate must be exactly the same. Say you have peppers, they must be the same length, size and stems cut evenly. Believe me its hard to find 5 peppers the same size and shape. Just a tip.

I help with our county fair, and also have won ribbons.. the garden club I belong to does the flower part, and it's a lot of work.

They are not as exact about same-same-same on plate here as long as it's the same thing; I'm not the only one that has to enter green tomatoes and they ripen during display. Ask before you show, on what the requirements are. Our fair is this county resident and grown in this county; the tomato and pumpkin Weigh-off is being held AT the fair, during the fair, on the fair grounds, but is a separate event, with different judges, entries, prizes and ribbons, and rules. That was carefully negotiated; to respect the fair and they respect the weigh-off.

For the flowers and plants, last year we had someone come in and instead of coming to log in, just went and set her stuff out then expected us to figure out what was hers. A few things got mixed up and she was upset, we fixed who got the prize money but she didn't get all her ribbons. I made the signs for this year that say *It is the *Entrant's* responsibility for registering their entries, we are *not* responsible if prizes are miscredited.* (to head off the one that always goes sets stuff out without doing the paperwork... and we do not fix your entry up for you before judging... we will tell you and provide supplies for you the enterant to fix things, we are not your slaves) [what that means is ask, the fair volunteers are more than willing to tell what is what, how to not be immediately disqualified, and how to get proper credit]

I won a grand prize btw, for 'veggie other' for putting four twinned tomatoes on a plate, different varieties!

We are having to split the pumpkin Weigh Off to a month later, but all prizes will be awarded. It also makes logistics much easier for me, only having to oversee one kind of thing being weighed at once....

I enter into a county fair. It is a lot closer than the PGPGA. High price of gas we just can't afford to travel that far accross the state. Wish we could I hear how wonderful the PGPGA weighoff is.
