Neighbor has squirrels bringing these odd shaped prickly green covered items to his yard...this is something I've never seen the size is an oblong tennis ball green in color impossible to touch the needles are so sharp...when I cut it open seems to have a whitish acorn type nut..much larger though...any ideas? I have one that I cut open but could probably get a picture of it.

I've never seen an edible chestnut...that's what it is...I've always seen horse chestnuts and never even knew it was a horse chestnut.

Osage orange is not priclky. It has a skin like an orange or grapefruit. Could it be a buckeye??

Sounds like a horse chestnut...The hulls are green prickily and soft. Break it open. You will find the chestnuts inside. P.S. NicNIC they get as big as a softball.
