Since Zac is a hybrid, it is advided that you eliminate any "off types". I think it's best to grow seeds from a "proven" big producer from your previous year, and also grow some "new seed", in search of that giant!

Any thoughts on how to keep the deer away from the maters? I was thinking of building hog wire cages around the plants say 4'x4'x8' tall with a lid? We just bought a 9+ Acre place next to a 10,000 acre wild life preserve, and man oh man the elk, deer, and moose are thick and brave too!

Gads,
They're might tasty don't you know! Unless you're attacked by a starving herd overnight, here's what works for me. When you've seen that they've been eating, sprinkle a little powdered cayenne on the leaves, you can get a giant size cheap at one of the big discount chains. I sprinkle it on the plants bordering the outside of the garden. Once they try it,believe me, they'll find something else to eat! (Re-apply after rain)
