I just got a couple different blueberry plants from the nursery and I got a few questions. First off my soil ph is 7.3, don't blueberries like it 5.0-5.5, so what is my best solution? I am guessing it is not wise to try and lower my ph 2 points all at once, so what is the best way to go about this? Also what are the best organic ferts to use?

We use pine bark mulch every year and eventually it has gotten our soil very happy and our yields have been huge. I know a lot of back yard growers also use miracle grow miracid and seem to do quite well. We plant just zone 3 or 4 blueberries in our yard and have done very well with a yield of 14 gallons last year. Alot of the zone 3 plants are low bush which are a pain to pick but have a great taste in my opinion. John

If you have a pine tree nearby the pine needles will slowly acidify the soil, along with some sulfur. Some blood meal or any other fertilizer that puts an emphesis on nitrogen will do good in moderation. As far as the speed at which to lower the pH, if i recall correctly I beleive its something like 1 to 2 points a year.
