I didn't plant my potatos till last of feb. and they haven't bloomed yet but I've been told if I don't dig them before July they 'll rot. Well it hurt to leave them.

I have been told that when a tater blooms you can scratch out a few to eat. Dig your taters when the plant dies down. If you leave the plant in the ground after the plant has died down, your taters will rot. If can always all your County Cooperation Extention Agent, they can come out and take a look. You pay for this service on your tax bill.

If potatoes rot in the ground how do they reproduce next year? I have never heard of this..might be climate related.

Sometimes the plants just don't bloom but they will produce taters just the same. I always have some that just don't wanta bloom. Wait until plant starts to turn yellow and die then dig away. Red taters will start to turn first. Nothing like fresh new red taters.
