I have several bulbs that are about to bud, except the chipmunks are eating the off before I get to enjoy watching the flowers. They are red carpet lillies that they are eating. Any tips to keep them at bay would be appreciated. Short of killing them with mouse traps, tried that already. Thanks.

lead poison them...a fine vintage .177 or bb is prefered

if you want to trap them...black sunflower seeds are irresistable to them..

take a five gallon pail and fill about a quarter of it with water. Float a styrofoam cup in it and in that put some sunflower seeds, and a ramp going up to the bucket. the chipmunks will climb up the wood and try to hang onto the side of the bucket with their back feet while trying to grab the seeds inside. They fall in and cant jump out becouse the water inside stops them from being able to get the bounce needed to get out. If you check it twice a day you can save them from drowning and take them for a drive down a back road.. if you dont check it twice a day you wont have to drive to far haha. It works great though, you can get rid of them in no time with this trick.

good idea mighty bee, you suppose a larger version with different bait could work for raccoons?

Im shure they would if you use an oil drum size. As long as you have something inside they cant resist they will go for it. Once in the water and unable to jump they have no chance of getting out. I would check it often though and put some lead in their head if your not going to drop them off in the woods.. drowning would be a cruel way to go, even for a critter.
