1st time growing a sunflower, it grew to 12 ft. bloomed, now it is bent over, doesnt follow the sun around, I think its done. Question, when do I cut the head from the plant and then what let it dry?

Richard...the weight of the sunflower head is what makes it bend over!!! So, obviously it aint gonna get any taller!!! The further it bends over, the bigger the head!!! I let the head stay on the plant until... all of the pollen blossoms have fallen off, or...until the birds start eating the seeds!!!! and then yes...let it dry...be careful tho...mold can set in w/out airflow, or critters will eat em!!! Hope this helps!! Peace, Wayne

Richard look for my sunflower head at the fair, I'm bringing one that is 50" circumference. This particular head is hanging about two feet down from where the stalk bends.
