I would like to know the answer to this question as well. I planted mine early spring this year and did not get as many nice sized bulds as I had hoped. I might plant a few this fall just to see what happens. We have -0 temps here in the winter. I have read conflicting things about when to plant. I planted Dutch shallots.

They are traditionally planted on the shortest day here.
